I was bought onto this queer, horror film project to design two bedrooms for two sibling characters with starkly different personalities. One was an eclectic young teenager called Sam who is coming into their cultural and gender identity. For them I drew inspiration from maximalist design, using conflicting décor and objects from multiple different eras contrasting the traditionally feminine things such as the parasol hanging from the ceiling and the floral prints all over, with very bold and harsh shape language, colours and lines.

For the lighting I wanted the colours to reflect the blurring of gender lines so the LED lights alternate between pink and blue with warm pops of orange to represent the heat and intensity of the space. Melody's room on the other hand was to  look drained of colour and far more minimalist. The director described her as 'highly vain but critical of vanity in others' which provided me a lot of insight into her character. I had to improvise with Melody's room when it came to set dressing as we had a last minute location change so I could not use the design I had mapped out. My process involved gathering measurements of space, using them to create designs, prop buying, set dressing and then lighting
