A large source of inspiration for this project was exhibition exchanges between the USSR and USA during the Cold War, these were proliferated under the assumption they would ease heightening tensions, revealing common ground between these two super-powers, in reality it further fueled cultural competition and emphasized cultural differences.  The American National Exhibition featured many displays of the latest "home appliances, fashions, television and hi-fi sets, a model house priced to sell [to] an 'average' family, farm equipment, 1959 automobiles, boats, sporting equipment and a children’s playground" highlighting the ideology of the American Dream,  and the capitalistic, individualistic family structure.  In the Soviet exhibition “mini-Moscow” was created, showing off Soviet technology and art" highlighting technological and industrial innovations highlighting the ideological emphasis on progress . I decided to reflect this in my narrative through a Soviet Moon domain and an American Moon Barn emphasizing cultural and ideological differences through design with the Russian structure being a constructivist collectivist environment and the American structure highlighting suburban individualist structures with an emphasis on productivity, manifested through a barn.

I began my research looking at the history of representations of Russian constructivist architecture for technical drafting and concept sketch/art inspiration. The design style is highly reflective of the geometric structures of the buildings, linear stark strong confident lines, bold shading.
I then explored mid-century design to influence the stylization of my American Barns. After I designed them I took the into SketchUp to model before importing them into blender to generate the environments for my video project, 'moon fever'.
From here I animated camera action and then used a CRT TV, a camcorder and an image capture device to degrade the footage. I placed this footage in context of archive news reports of the time for this video piece.
